Eurowings projects

Eurowings and myclimate are committed to a cooperative partnership in CO2 offsetting and climate protection. myclimate, the Swiss climate protection foundation, is one of the leading providers of voluntary emission offsetting schemes and promotes measurable climate protection and sustainable development globally, using the highest quality projects. myclimate is a non-profit foundation that meets Eurowings’ quality standards and ensures cost transparency. Eurowings passengers have the option of calculating the individual carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions caused by their flight and offsetting them with a voluntary contribution.

CO2 emissions are offset in myclimate’s high-quality certified global climate protection projects which meet the highest standards (Gold Standard, CDM). They contribute not only to reducing greenhouse gases in the project region, but also to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This means that the local population sees the benefits from social, economic and ecological improvements (job creation, knowledge and technology transfer, as well as improved quality of life). On top of this, part of the CO2 offsetting money is used for local climate protection projects in Germany.

myclimate guarantees its clients that emission reductions (offsetting donations) that are purchased in the energy sector will be realised in climate protection projects within two years at the latest and will be set aside in a public register after three years at the latest. As a non-profit foundation, myclimate also guarantees that at least 80 percent of the offsetting money will be used for climate protection projects.

Back to the green island with efficient and solar stoves, Madagascar

In order to reduce CO2 and counter the rapid deforestation on Madagascar, myclimate supports the manufacture and distribution of efficient cookers and climate-friendly solar cookers. The sensibilisation of pupils about environmental protection and climate friendly cooking as well as the reforestation of one seedling per cook stove sold are part of that project. Animal manure produces clean biogas, Bali, Indonesia

The overall objective of this climate protection project is the installation of domestic biogas digesters as a clean, sustainable energy source throughout Indonesia. Domestic biogas provides a sustainable way for individual households with livestock to reduce dependence on firewood and expensive fossil fuels. More information about the project.

Savings groups enable women to afford an efficient cook stove, Siaya, Kenya

Traditionally the rural communities of the Siaya region of western Kenya have cooked on open fires, which require huge amounts of firewood. Thanks to community savings and loaning (CSL) groups, however, women can now afford more efficient stoves. This reduces the demand for firewood and thus protects the local forests, which leads to reduced CO2 emissions. Furthermore the CSL groups lead to a financial and social empowerment of women. Electricity from FSC wood waste in the Amazon, Itacoatiara, Brazil

In the Brazilian Amazonas region, myclimate supports the switch from diesel to climate-friendly FSC woodchips for the production of electricity. This small-scale project is the first worldwide that generates emission reduction certificates on the basis of sustainably harvested biomass from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified forestry.
